. . . Leaves, stems, flower buds & seeds are all edible. Stems get tougher after the plant is about 2' high so from that point on you'll probably want to harvest only leaves & flower buds. Seeds need to be ground to be digestible & can be used as a dark flour.

. . . Keep the flower buds pulled unless you want seeds earlier in the season but make sure you let at least one plant go to seed for next years crop. You don't even have to save them because they'll self sow & you'll have beaucoup volunteers next year.

They say the quarters belong to them.

. . . No need to worry if you don't do well with seeds. The seeds do quite well all by themselves.

. . . Read over the section under "CARE" jn the description above.

. . . Pay particular attention to "Self sow readily" & "Best germination occurs on top of soil".

. 1. Mark out a level area for your seed bed (whatever - 2'x2' or 2'x3' or 2'x4' or 2'x5' or 3'x3' or 3'x4' or even a strip along the edge of a bed 3" or 6" or 1' by how ever long you want to make it).
. 2. Prepare the soil, raking it smooth & remove any too large rocks, twigs, etc.
. 3. Get some sand, perlite, fine sawdust, even white rice grains (a light colored material is best so you'll be able to see where you've missed when you're broadcasting) (Do not use beach sand unless the salt has been rinsed out of it thoroughly beforehand & it is not now sopping wet).
. 4. Moisten the material slightly (mist from a spray bottle) so the seeds will tend to stick to it & be mixed more thoroughly.
. 5. Add the seeds & mix thoroughly. You should be able to see that the black seeds are spread evenly throughout the material. If not, moisten a bit more & mix, repeating only a little bit each time until the seeds do not tend to clump in one spot. Do not get it extra wet to be sure or you will have trouble broadcasting evenly.
. 6. Take small handfuls and sprinkle it all evenly over the prepared seed bed area.
. 7. Water it with a light spray or shower that falls directly down like rain so that you don't wash any seeds over into one spot.
. 8. Ma nature will take over from there.
. 9. When the seedlings have at least 2 sets of leaves, Transplant 'em to where ever you want 'em or just let them grow right there & then thin out whole plants to use in salads or cook or what ever.
. 10. Remember to let at least one plant go to seed at the end of the season.

. . . You can grow 'em in the house just as you could grow tomatoes or peppers in the house with supplemental lighting or in a south exposure, but they are not actually a houseplant in the same sense as pothos or dracaena, etc. They prefer full sun, will grow in partial shade or even shade but the growth will be correspondingly poorer.
