Description

The listing, Grilled 2 cent Jackson has ended.

Grilled 2 cent Jackson. All of the pictures are the same stamp. 7 are the front and 2 are the back. They are under different settings in an attempt to determine the grill type which makes the stamp exceedingly expensive or within the comfortable range of the typical collector. This stamp also has the desirable PAID cancel which helps to set an earliest date on some stamps. The grill alone provides the 1867 date. Unfortunately for this stamp we could have a D, Z, E or F type grill. Try as I may I cannot resolve its size. So I am selling it as an "F" grill which is the lowest cat value at around $35.00. It could also be an "E" grill at $100.00. The other two less likely options of "Z" and "D" grills are $700 and $2300 respectively. The stamp has two straight edges indicating it may be a corner stamp of a sheet and the perfs are raggedy but the stamp is otherwise sound. No thins and tears. It is for certain not a 73 which is the blackjack w/o a grill. Good luck folks. Not a bad stamp.

Thank you. What I know might fill a small book. What I don't know would fill an encyclopedia:). Good to see you.

As an added note as this draws to a close. On the reverse side shots you will notice a lot of black marks. These are the marks of former owners trying to identify the grill size. It is a common way to do this and was not done by me. They are pencil or graphite marks. Good luck.
