To clarify:
I bought an old house in South Dakota. Title abstracts show it was built in mid 1800s.
The house is full of old stuff, most of it dating from 1850 through 1950.

My intentions are not to spend so much time on each item. I thought I could save time and research If I just post with 0 start bid, and let Listia community engage and share what they know. Instead I find myself spending too much time fending off these libelous attacks.

I would hate to have to start blocking people and hiding comments, but I may have to choose between that and setting higher start bids.

Anyone can go and look at my other auctions, and it will be obvious I have a bunch of vintage items, and not chinese knock offs.

I'm not trying to burst anyones bubble but this item looks to be incomplete or altered while being repaired. The statue of liberty is not period for this item. Something is off on this piece. Anyway good luck to any bidder but be cautious of items looking like vintage but are just knock offs

The flint striker along the side is no longer there. But it is authentic and very old. Not a knock off. You can look up the patent numbers, and compare to other Match-King lighters from this era.

I stand by my comment. The etching of the statue of liberty is wrong and looks to be altered. Just because a item has a date does not make it valuable if it's missing pieces and altered. Look at other match king pictures. You will see an authentic one pictured all over the internet. Where is the wearing of metal, scratches on lady liberty. Dude you are so off on this item. It has to be a knock off

This was made before much of the world was industrialized enough to be even be able to even make knock offs.
I don't know exact date, but would estimate this was made before WW2. Probably in the 30s

I won't make any guarantee of value, but can guarantee it's not a knock off.

China makes knock-offs of anything. From gold bar junk, silver coin replicas. You are not understanding your market. An estate sale only would sell junk like this as a bundle of other junk. Its worthless no matter the replication of mint mark.

China as we know it didn't exist at the time this was manufactured.
At the time they were embroiled in civil war and Japanese occupation. They had no manufacturing capacity or focus enough to begin counterfeiting USA cigarette lighters.

If you don't appreciate history and the goods from past time periods, this probably isn't the auction for you.

Heck it can be fake, the objects still gonna do what it was made to. And besides its not like having one item that could be counterfeit causes any problems anyway.

It's not fake.
But I can't say it will work, it's very old and untested. Wouldn't recommend using it. It is a collectors item.
