I know you probably know this or if you don't I myself just found out a great tip when taking photos of coins if you use a black or darkest color you can get to use as your background it makes the coin pop alot better. I did this with an old darker idian head penny before doing that you couldn't see the full liberty once I did this you could see it shine very nice. Then again if it's in the white flip makes it hard to do that. Wasn't trying to be a smarty pants just trying to help I had no idea until someone told me.

No smarty pants at all :). I have a Canon 120 but have never been able to find the time to learn the macro process. Mostly just using my scanner and sometimes the tedious task of using Paint to crop and enlarge the focal points. I'm great at the great outdoors, flowers, bridges, trains and a lot of other things but just plain poor at this. I keep saying "one of these days" but keep putting it off. Thank you for your nice post, appreciate the tips.

You're very welcome coins are one of the hardest things to take a picture of atleast it was for myself. I use my camera on my cellphone due to not having a digital camera anymore and I used the black dark background and it actually made the whole coin look totally different. Instead of looking so dark and dirty it was bright like copper and the lettering was very nicely noticable and before that being told to always use a white crisp background for other items to make them look nicer it's totally opposite for taking pictures of coins. Sorry I love being able to talk coins with people ...lol Hope you have a great day.

I used to collect when I turned twelve my uncle got me started bc I always loved looking at his collection so he waited until I was turning 12 and gave me a starter collection from his own older valuable coins along with getting me some basic beginner coins and I added hundreds and hundreds of dollars to that until about 5 years ago one of my friends daughters ended up stealing my entire collection along with my currency collection as well and I just recently decided to get back into it and to try one more time to get a nice collection again so I've been recollecting now for about a year. I had collected for 30 years before it got stolen. Noone I know is into coins and currency so I tend to talk your ear off when anyone does enjoy to talk about coins with me. LoL sorry for being so long winded and talking way to much mucking up your wall for your auction comments but ty so much I truly enjoy chatting

My maternal grandmother got me started at age 12. It was a 1923 Peace Dollar that was my reward for mowing and weeding all day. I was amazed at such a large coin and asked her if she had anymore. I slowly emptied her bank that was filled with Mercs, standing liberty and walking liberty coins. But a whole lot of hard work to earn those. And I still have all to this day, marked in my albums with a little tab as "G" coins for grandmother.
