On March 19, 2018, the Yankees announced
that Ellsbury would not be ready for Opening Day
as he was diagnosed with a right oblique strain
since the beginning of spring training. On April 3,
it was subsequently revealed that Ellsbury was
diagnosed with a hip ailment, putting him out for
a longer period of time. On August 6, he had surgery
to repair a torn labrum in his left hip, causing him to
miss the 2018 season without having played a single
game. Ellsbury began the 2019 year on the 10-day
injured list due to a foot injury.
On April 20, he was transferred to the 60-day injured
list. It was revealed that he was dealing with plantar
fasciitis and a shoulder injury, stemming more setbacks.
