Trading this fresh smells so good sassafras as potpourri because I harvested extra and it has been banned in 2018 along with sarsaparilla because they contain safrole, banned by the FDA due to its carcinogenic effects. Safrole was found to contribute to Liver cancer in rats when given in high doses and thus it and sassafras or sarsaparilla containing products were banned! So being warned sasafras is the root in rootbeer and my must have for my sun tea and been harvesting this myself since the 1970`s! The root bark is to make Medicine despite serious safety concerns, sassafras is used for urinary tract disorders, swelling in the nose and throat, syphilis, bronchitis, high blood pressure in old people, gout, arthritis, skin problems and cancer.
