The listing, Antique Book JUDE THE OBSCURE by Thomas Hardy Modern Library Edition FREE SHIP has ended.
Up for auction is an old (antique I think) book, Jude the Obscure, purchased with a small box of antique books at a church auction. It reads "bound for the Modern Library by H. Wolf" , but I could find no date on the inside., so it may be a First Edition. I saw another person had it listed as 1920s. Author is Thomas Hardy.
There is an unusual inscription on the flyleaf that reads "Gerry I think this was given to me in a restaurant on the New York / Massachusetts state line, from someone's collection." That is the only writing I found in the book.
As you can see, the book is in poor condition, evidently coming in contact with water at some point. The book is still firmly attached to the spine though, and the only break is on the title page pictured.
Most of the pages appear as the other open book pictured, and are slightly wavy. The leatherette cover has seen better days. I know some people purchase these old books for craft purposes (junk journals, scrapbooks, etc.), so you are purchasing this "as is". And of course, it is still good for reading!
Smoke-free item, and it actually has the nice smell of an old volume! Book lovers and librarians will know what I mean!
