WILD ROSE -aka- Dog Rose, Brier Rose

Botanical name : Rosa canina

syn: Rosa leucantha / Rosa pseudoscabrata / Rosa sphaerica / Rosa surculosa / Rosa marschalliana

This climbing wild rose species is hardy down to USDA Zone 3a (-39.9 °C _or_-40 °F). It is an uncultivated relative of the horticultural roses (which are often grafted onto this species). It is a ferociously thorned plant.

It grows largest when it has some support from a bigger shrub or hedge, The stems tend to droop over after 5 feet or so if unsupported.

Is this the same variety I have growing wild in my yard here in minnesota? It almost looks like it but the thorns on your pic look to have more & the branch looks thicker... Or is it just the camera? Thanx! =•)

i dunno -- i would have to see what grows in your yard . . . if it is the same, the difference may be from being cultivated rather than growing wild

I absolutely love the idea of a rose that grows wild...no having to baby it is right up my alley. LOL I assume it requires direct sunlight, right?

it grows in full sun to part sun locations . . . with sun in the early part of the day and the shade in the late afternoon.

Do they have a fragrance? I have some wild roses that have no fragrance but my wild multiflora are very sweet.
