this is a U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, and i would just guess at the year, if i had some kind of history on it , this medal is still used today, by looking at how faded the ribbon is and how tarnished the medal is , i would say about WWII or Korea war. mice piece

I know that the Air Force good conduct medal is given to some one that has gone out of their way to go above and beyond to try to help someone that generally has nothing to do with their active duty assignment. My ex- husband got one for stopping at a really BAD auto accident to try to help the high school kids that had taken a turn waaaay too sharp. ALL the high school grads. were on their way to a post grad. party. They all were either severally injured and /or a couple passed away. One of the young men that died was one of the kids that my ex- tried to help. The young man had been thrown out of the car, landed across the road, on the blacktop and down a few hundred yards. When my husband got to him he tried to do chest compressions on him, and the young man's lungs were so severly damaged my husband said they felt like they were full of mush so, my ex- just sat there and rocked the young man in his arms until he passed. To this day, my ex is haunted by that night. So, that is the type of things they get the GCM for. Every year at graduation time, it's VERY hard for my husband to be happy for the kids that just graduated, because he thinks about all those young men & women who died that night.
