Description

The listing, Unused 1900's Alcazar Hotel Post Card has ended.

The Alcazar Hotel in St. Augustine, FL was opened in 1887 by Henry Flagler and was a resort hotel that featured at the time the largest indoor swimming pool, 3 story ballroom, gym, and elegant dining restaurants, and elegant rooms. The hotel closed in 1932 during the depression and would remain empty until 1947 when Chicago publisher Otto Lightner bought to be a museum to hold his vast collections of art and historical items. It was given to the city of St. Augustine in 1948 and they have maintained the museum. The card was published for the hotel and used to promote the hotel in the very early years of the 20th century. This card is in excellent unused condition for being nearly 125 years old!
