I think this was one of the first As Seen on TV items. I had one before I got married in 1965 and wore it out. My husband bought me another he found at a flea market about the time I found one too. This is the extra set. The points are very sharp. Complete set.

Yes. I have had this set for many years. Wore out the ruler. Found 2 more and Listing one of them. I love it.

does it come with instructions for beginners? any needles? is the pen like thing the actual sewing machine?

There are no real needles like regular sewing needles. You thread up the needles provided that have an opening for a spool of thread and you go up and down with them. If you want to be fancy you can hold the thread under and put the needle through it the next time, locking the stitch. I like that. So yes the pen is the actual sewing machine.
