--> Zip Codes were not always a part of our mailing addresses. People were reluctant to use them and in many instances were unaware that they even had one or what it was.
The Postal Service had to educate the populace to bring about the needed speedier sorting and handling of the growing mail volume. These cards were a part of the direct customer contact in that campaign that went along with the billboards, newspaper, magazine and television advertising.

This is for Two (2) original Postal Department ZIP code announcement Postcards (One for your collection, and one to trade!) for:
USPS ZIP Code 13439 - RICHFIELD SPRINGS NY, New York. [October, 1970]

The cards are from 1970 and they are STILL trying to encourage postal patrons to use their ZIP Codes, three years after being introduced in 1967. These postcards are blank on the reverse side.

The first picture is a representative scan of the cards. The following pictures are for scale and yours will be essentially identical.

UNUSED condition.

[From a design standpoint, if you compared the heavy outline on images of the head of "Mr Zip", it echoes the shape drawn by the type surrounding the redesigned Postal Services logo shown on this later post card.]

Will be shipped carefully from a smoke free home with a woodstove.

Free shipping in the USA.

***** If you would like to buy more than one item from me I can reduce the GIN cost of the subsequent auctions for you, since shipping costs are included in the prices. Just ask! *****
