This purple 3-cent value stamp from the 1938 Presidential Series features an image of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), one of the most influential founders of the United States. He was the nation's third president (1801-09). A bust on display in the Congressional Library inspired the stamp's vignette. A genius and an enigma, it was Jefferson who wrote (or helped write) the Declaration of Independence, but also owned slaves. This 3-cent stamp was the 'workhorse' of the mail during the 1940s and early 1950s. This is a liquidation of an existing collection.
My late great grandma collected stamps. She was not a “true” stamp collector & basically stored them in manila envelopes. Most of the stamps are in good condition as seen in photos but they have yellowed due to poor storage. Additionally, they’d be great for paper crafting & jewelry making or anywhere else your creativity wants to take you.
