There is a millimeter in difference in size between the two of them.

I put this on my iPad 3 and it does fit but it is a tiny bit loose on the sides so I think it might be for the first gen iPad. Though it did not slip off or anything so I guess it is up to you if you want to try it or not. They should have specified which one it was for on the package. I hope this helps out.
