2x Postal Memorabilia: Vintage "ZIP" Postcard announcements (UNUSED) 1970
--> Zip Codes were not always a part of our mailing addresses. People were reluctant to use them and in many instances were unaware that they even had one-- or what it was! So, The Postal Service had to educate the populace to bring about the needed speedier sorting and handling of the growing mail volume. These cards were a part of the direct customer contact in that campaign that went along with the billboards, newspaper, magazine and television advertising, as well as the famous little mr. zip character invented to remind folks to use the new codes.
This is for Two (2) original Postal Department ZIP code announcement Postcards (One for your collection, and one to trade!) for:
USPS ZIP Code 13439 - RICHFIELD SPRINGS NY, New York. [October, 1970]
The cards are from 1970 and they were STILL trying to encourage postal patrons to use their ZIP Codes, three whole years after zipcodes being introduced in 1967.
These postcards are BLANK on the reverse side.
UNUSED condition.
[From a design standpoint, if you compared the heavy outline on images of the head of "Mr Zip", it echoes the shape drawn by the type surrounding the redesigned Postal Services logo shown on this later post card.]
