The listing, ROCKS #1 North Carolina Gem Mine Collection has ended.
Do your kids collect rocks? Seems most kids do at one time or another.
Here is a small collection of rocks and quartz from North Carolina We went on vacation a few yrs back and had a ball, "minning gems" in Franklin, North Carolina. There are several mines there for emeralds, rubies, garnets, quartz, amythist and several others If you have children 5 to teens you really should go sometime.
This is a nice little stocking stuffer for your rock hunter.
It contains the following:
First is a rock call Adventurine. It is a greenish color.
There are two small Amythist samples, one smooth and one that shows how this purple stones crystals grow in clusters. The next rock, I am not sure Its a light blue color. Next we have a mystery rock.It is tannish with green spots, maybe emerald but mostly matrix. Then there is a piece of a white quarts crystal point.
The kids love collecting these.
Well this year, my husband wanted to stay closer to home and not drive 16 hours from Connecticut to North Carolina, but the youngun didn't want to go anywhere unless there was a mine to go Gem hunting because she had such a great time in NC.( You do get quite dirty there from the water and dirt. They also sell buckets of dirt.')
So after much research we decided on going Norh to New Hampshire. There is pleanty to do in the White Mountain area, Great golf for dad, we went to a Pow Wow in July, and lo and behold, there is a place called Ruggles Mine a few hours away. There you can pick glow in the dark rocks from the ground or bring your tools and "dig out" some of the walls of caves, that you can play in and out of. Another great time had. You really should try it if you have kids from 5 to teens. There is much more mines in NC and that is where these rocks come from.
so good luck! And I hope your family has a chance to try this fun thing to do.
