This fire starter has the striker and the Mg bar. The striker shaves some of the Mg (silver bar) off onto the tinder then hits the black area (strip down the front of the bar) to create a spark. The Mg burns at around 2500 - 3000 degrees enabling the tinder to catch easier esp if damp.Thank you for looking
