The listing, ~~>1953 BRASS QUEEN ELIZABETH CORONATION DOOR KNOCKER,<~~ has ended.
Here is an auction for those history buffs and even those who aren't...I have a solid brass 1953 Queen Elizabeth Coronation Door Knocker!
Crafted in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London on June 2 of that year. Marked "ER" for Elizabeth Regina (Latin for Elizabeth the Queen) and "Dieu et mon droit," the motto of the British Monarch, on a scroll beneath the shield of the coat of arms of the United Kingdom.
The motto, French for literally "God and my right," refers to the divine right of the Monarch to govern and is said to have first been adopted as the royal motto of England by King Henry V in the 15th century. (For the Royal coat of arms of the Kingdom of England to have a French rather than English motto was not unusual, given that Norman French was the primary language of the English Royal Court and ruling class following the rule of William the Conqueror of Normandy).
Handcrafted using the age-old art of foundry casting, the vintage knocker measures 3 1/2-inches in height by 2-inches in width, marked on back, "Made in England."
Thank you for looking and Happy Holidays!
