Description

The listing, Sony PRS-300 eReader has ended.

Welcome to my first Listia auction..the first of many! :) I'm putting up at this time my VERY gently used Sony PRS-300 eReader that I no longer need because I have the Kindle app on both my phone and tablet. As you can see by the pictures it is in excellent cosmetic and working condition, and includes a USB charger only, as I never purchased the wall charger separately, and a cover w/attached book light that I DID purchase (at the time I believe it was $40 or more). Here is a short description from Sony's site regarding it:

The Reader Pocket Edition™ lets you access up to 350 of your favorite books from anywhere. Its elegant, lightweight design is small enough to slip into a purse or jacket pocket, and features a 5" display with E Ink® Vizplex paper-like screen technology for easy reading, even in direct sunlight. For added versatility, it supports multiple file formats including ePub and PDF, offering access to more books from more places, including the Reader™ Store and over one million free public domain titles from Google Books.

More of the description can be found at this link: http://store.sony.com/p/PRS-300SC/en/p/PRS300SC

As you can see from the description, this eReader uses the "epub" format, which is the same format used by Barnes and Noble for their Nook devices. You can therefore purchase books from their website and transfer them to this device. You can purchase books from Amazon as well I believe, but you would have to convert the files into "epub" format. You are welcome to contact me for more info on how to do that.

One more thing...I'm not certain of the legality of leaving the books on there that are currently installed, so I will be removing them all before sending the item out. Very sorry about that, but I don't wish to get into any legal battles, and I doubt you do either.... :) Please contact me if you have any further questions...thanks!

No, it has neither wifi nor 3G capability. This began selling in stores back in 2009 as an entry-level ebook reader. Even though it wasn't that long ago, this model was not capable of internet access, thus the low starting bid. Thanks for asking! :)

This is simply a e reader meaning it supports ebooks only. Not a tablet you can download apps and such. I thought about getting one of these I just might. :3 we will see. F&W

You can download books from any site that offers them in epub format...here are 2 sites I can think of off the top of my head:

https://ebookstore.sony.com/ - this is the sony ereader store obviously
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/NOOK-Book-eBook-store/379003094 - this is the link to the B&N site...the Nook also supports the epub format.

This is a excerpt from Wikipedia about the compatible formats for the PRS-300:
Media Formats Supported
EPUB file (Non DRM/ Adobe DRM protected)
BBeB Book (Non DRM/ PRS DRM protected)
PDF file (Non DRM/ Adobe DRM protected)
Text file
RTF file
Word file (unsecured) converted by eBook Library program on your PC to RTF.

Therefore, any files you have in any of those formats can be read on this device, and even if you happen to procure files suck as .lit or .mobi files, you can always convert them into epub format using either a program such as Calibre (free download and free to use) or any number of websites that will convert the files you upload to your preferred format and allow you to download the result....here is one of them:

http://ebook.online-convert.com/convert-to-epub

I hope what I've provided to you in this post has been useful to you...thanks! :)
