Real 550 paracord has a braided outer sheath and 7 inner strands with a total tensile strength of 550 lbs. The braided outer sheath has a tensile strength rated at about 200 pounds. It is durable yet yielding. The paracord's 7 inner strands have a tensile strength rated at about 50 pounds individually.
In survival situations the paracord can be unwoven and used for all kinds of things including, lashing for a shelter, sewing tears in clothing, a bow saw for fire starting, tourniquets, splints, fishing line, tying up gear, and countless other uses. Paracord can be used for anything that you can think of when rope/cord/string is needed.
