if they are sterling silver and brand new, why are the posts tarnished? real silver doesnt tarnish and rust like that.

The little velveteen bag that it arrived in was too small. I took them out and the backs fell off. So it should read : never used, brand new earrings, with lost backs I replaced with old ones. Better?
