The listing, Yucca plant seeds. has ended.
This auction is for one seed pod, each pod contains hundreds of seeds. I love my Yuccas. They only bloom every two years. But when they do be ready, they are breath taking. The years that they bloom will be your first seed harvest. If you planted in an area that you do not want tons of them growing, When the pods crack and become dry nip them off before they open.
Excerpt from E-How
Flower Characteristics
Yucca has an unusual flower/stalk configuration. The stalks rise exceptionally high above the foliage -- sometimes 6 to 8 feet. The fragrant, summer-blooming flowers are clustered at the top of the stalk, each one dangling on a short stem.
Unusual Pollination
Yucca flowers are unusual because they are pollinated by only one insect, the yucca moth (Tegeticula). The moth transfers flower pollen but also lays eggs among the developing ovules (future seeds). The larvae eat some of the seeds but not all, assuring survival of both plant and insect species.
Misconceptions
Probably the most common misconception about yuccas and other members of the agave family is that they can only survive in desert environments. Yucca species grow all over the United States, as far north and east as New Jersey and New York.
I have about 85 pods of seeds. My plant produced two spires of flowers this year!
I live in IL. this year we had below levels of rainfall, drought. Winters are normally harsh and cold. This plant survives it all. They are truly beautiful. Bright sunny spot and any soil pretty much except clay types.. Any questions please ask I will find you an answer if I do not know it.
