Description

The listing, HP Pavilion XE748 has ended.

This is a used computer. It originally came with a lousy 64MB of ram and a 700MHz Celeron CPU. I have upgraded the ram to 384MB (It will take up to 512.) and the CPU to a PIII at 733. The CPU currently registers as a PIII at 550. It will register at full speed with the addition of a manual jumper on the MB between contacts. In the meantime it still runs faster than the original Celeron.

The original OS was Windows ME, probably the single worst OS MS ever released. Given that this PC is outdated for any real windows work the OS has been replaced with MacPup Linux. It is a very easy to use OS and as the name implies has an interface that looks like a Mac. Simple point and click GUI on par with that and Windows. Works perfectly and is very small and fast so the pairing with this older PC is good. Boots in less than 30 seconds. OS is freeware and gives you easy access to Linux freeware that will do anything you want. There is software that will take the place of anything you would do on a modern Windows PC.

System has the stock Hard drive and CD-RW with built in sound, video, and a LAN card with room for expansion if needed (Like a larger video card.). Any questions feel free to ask.

It's possible, depending on the hardware and version of Ubuntu that is being run. This PC is older, but with the addition of MacPup seems to run fast as it is a very small OS that retains its ease of use.

The CPU you have now would be over twice as fast as the one in this PC. If I could suggest it; try speeding the system up by switching to a light version of Linux like Puppy, MacPup, or offshoots. They are much smaller than a full blown Ubuntu installation and will run faster yet. Small enough to run off a small flash drive and an old Floppy Disk, while still having a good feature set.

It's hard for me to say right now. My scale is rather small and erred out when trying to weight this little, but rather heavy PC. I would guess no matter whom I go through; it would be in the 20-35 range for the continental US. I can try to get an exact weight, but it will take a day or so.

Crashed or died? A crash can be fixed as it is usually a simple software driver issue, a dead computer will need a few replacement parts. I was planning on getting rid of just the mini tower part of this one, but if you needed a power cable I can include it. Though your old equipment should plug into and work just fine with this, or nearly any computer out there.

I don't have a scale that goes up that high for weight. My best guess is 20-35 after packaging.
