Act of god, Damage to the laptop. Tribe of pygmies abducting my dog for ransom. The guy who has said he wants to buy it for a year actually shows up with money.. I told a friend if I sold it he had first dibs. I gave him a month and well.. I listed it. if he showed up and cried and stuff i could break down and sell it to him. but I dount that will happen.

Yea in hindsight a GIN might have been smart. Its hard to tell people that this outperforms many of the desktops currently surfing listia.. that and the fact that they are still making drivers for the hardware means its far from obsolete. I really debated keeping it and taking a negative feedback but that ruins the fun of listia.. Thanks, Bob

You said "everything is stock less the Hard drive and Memory" I understand that this laptop includes no hard drive, but why did you include the memory in that statement? Has the memory been upgraded or something? Can you verify the installed amount for me?

Lastly, the new video card you installed is the same stock configuration as it was originally sold, correct?

Thanks!

For those that want to run the service tag. The HD and Memory is different, the video card is identical . It has (1) 1GB and (1) 512MB stick in it. Not what it originally came with it. The video card is a replacement card identical to the one that shipped with it that was purchased to replace the dead video card.

Today i installed Windows XP media Center Edition 2003 on a system that I had no OS for. I used OEM install disks and used the key found on the licence on the case./ Went smoothly no problems at all. Been a long time since i have used xp.. I dont remember it being this fast.. Something you might want to consider with Windows XP 64. The 3rd party driver support from hardware manufacturers was lacking. i sold my copy xp64 shortly after buying it due to the lacking support by both Microsoft and the manufacturer of my guitar effects processors and such. I wasnt impressed with xp64

hehee.. no worries.. I read and type type-poopoo.. shipping to Bellingham would be $14.21 If your coming south we could meet you in marysville if you wanted. Putting a hard drive in is very easy. you dont have to open it up.. Its just a drawer in the side.. memory is a cover on the bottom. shouldnt have to pay anyone, just put a drive in. put a cd or dvd or flashdrive with your new OS on it. and install operating System.. Its very very simple. Grab a SATA laptop drive online or at a local shop. It is very simple and can be done with any small phillips screwdriver. I'll upload pictures :)

if you can do it yourself not too hard or expensive. lf you have to have someone do it it might be. Plus you have to have the disk to reinstall the operating system.

I do not have the restore disks, you can get a set of them online or use your own Install disks from an operating system you have. Ubuntu is a free operating system that isnt too bad. Or find a Windows operating system. You can download every driver made for this laptop from dell and they are all self installing with good documentation. The disk is easy to put in. I am uploading a photo of the laptop with the hard drive tray so you can see how simple it is. Like the listing as well as many comments say.. this is a Rugged laptop.. your not going to hurt it taking out the drive tray.. It is built like a tank. I dont have an extra SATA drive to put in it or i would have put one in.

Actually it Shipped with Windows XP Professional. All dell Laptops at this time were not shipped with disks. They came with a recovery partition. It was extra to have them send disks. thats why all the drivers are readily available online. recovery disks are available on ebay for under 20 dollars. just go to Amazon or ebay and type Dell recovery disk.

just a suggestion looks like it would fit in a flat rate priority box, or regional rate box

Picture?type=square&access token=105469222550%7cd qfyki0ggnddypmnoq3ykmtsyq
yes it would ft in the super secret large flat rate box the post office hides in the back and doesnt place out in the general public area.
This box is 11.75 wide by 3 inches tall by 23.6675 long.. my concern using it is that the laptop is 11.5 inches wide offering only 1/4 inches of padding and protection. I could pad it the best i could.. put it in a garbage bag, spray expanding foam insulation in the box or pack some padding around it. And odds are it would get there without damage or incident.. I like to be safe but if you want to use flat rate large USPS and take your chances. I will not accept returns and it would be up to the winner how they want to have it shipped. I havnt priced a 17" lcd screen lately, but i suspect its more than a well padded box.. I never even considered trying to put it in a flat rate box. :) hehehe

ive been playing with Ubuntu and am pretty impressed, It installed most all the drivers without issue. I noticed as far as the M90 goes there is talk of some issues they are resolving with the GeForce FX 1500m. and the latest ubuntu release. I am only familiar with ubuntu and a little red hat. Linux. I dont know enough to offer up an opinion except I do see the hardware is supported. i use Ubuntu 64. on my current laptop. Its pretty solid however some of the install methods for programs is barbaric.. hehehe Im not to familier with the darknet.. i have heard of the undernet and felonynet.. but not darknet. would have to look in the forums. In order to use the dell OEM disk you might have to modify the image as this one is XP pro.

depends on what size you want. on average a new retail boxed 320 GB drive around 60 to 80 dollars. I would expect to spend no less than 40 (the average price for a New OEM 120GB SATA laptop drive) But you can also get them used from sites like this one or CList EvilBay and many others
